President’s Address: The 18th Lok Sabha’s inaugural parliamentary session is still making news. According to parliamentary custom, President Draupadi Murmu spoke to the joint session of Parliament today in this order. She voiced her views on the Emergency during the President’s Address, which infuriated the leaders of the opposition India Alliance. According to this order, the opposition leaders recommended that the President address a number of topics, including Manipur, unemployment, and NEET 2024.

When President Draupadi Murmu spoke today to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha joint session of Parliament, she brought up the Emergency. She declared, “The entire nation was plunged into anarchy when the then-government declared a state of emergency in 1975. The Constitution was repeatedly assailed even after it was put into effect in the nation.” The President also called the Emergency a terrible chapter in democracies history and a blatant assault on the Constitution during this time.

President Murmu’s Critique of the Emergency

As soon as the President’s speech mentioned a state of emergency, the leaders of the opposition (India Alliance) became enraged and began acting out violently. In response to the President’s speech, senior Congressman and Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor stated, “Talking about emergency in the address after 49 years was illogical. Topics such as the NEET test, unemployment, and Manipur ought to have been discussed today. In addition, the speech need to have addressed concerns over the border between China and India.”

Former Madhya Pradesh CM and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh said in this regard that “We had high hopes from the President’s address in both the houses of Parliament but we were disappointed. He said some things that were not needed.”

Sanjay Raut, a member of the Rajya Sabha and head of the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, stated that PM Modi has been giving this speech for the past ten years instead of the president. The speech will contain whatever the PM desires.” He described the current administration as a minority government during this and stated, “Even though PM Modi has already lost the majority, it was not mentioned in his speech, and even now, fifty years later, there is talk of an emergency. Asaduddin Owaisi’s Remarks on the Omission of Key Issues

Asaduddin Owaisi, the MP for Hyderabad and leader of AIMIM, also commented on the President’s speech. He declared, “The President’s speech made no reference to unemployment or minorities. Hate speech has escalated in India and in places of worship, according to remarks made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken yesterday. In the process, the AIMIM chairman referred to the address as “old wine in a new bottle” and suggested that NEET be taken into consideration in addition to paper leak difficulties.
