During the visit of Egypt President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, who is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on January 24 ahead of the Republic Day celebrations where he would be the special guest, India and Egypt are expected to sign about half a dozen agreements.
Egypt’s pragmatic diplomacy in discussion boards like the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, where Cairo has increasingly maintained a cautious position while responding to Pakistan’s aggressive campaign on Kashmir, has brought the two sides closer aside from discussions on defence, security, and new energy initiatives.
This year’s Republic Day parade is expected to include 180 personnel of the Egyptian armed services as a sign of stronger military ties. A postage stamp that depicts the extensive partnership between the two nations over the past 75 years will be unveiled during Mr. El Sisi’s state visit.
According to reports, collaboration on security, counterterrorism, and defense-related issues is estimated to take centre – stage in the bilateral discussions during Mr. El Sisi’s visit.
To discuss UAVs and cyber threats
After the visit, the India-Egypt Joint Working Group on Terrorism will meet and discuss challenges posed by UAVs and cyber threats.
Rajnath Singh, the defence minister (September 2022) and S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, have both went to visit both sides in the past year (October 2022).
Egypt’s Minister of Information Technology Amr Talaat visited Bengaluru and New Delhi earlier this month spoke with companies like Wipro and government entities about digital efforts there. Last November, the Indian delegation to COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh was led by Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav.
