Ahead of the Vidhan Sabha elections in Puducherry, Congress has suffered a major setback with the resignation of four MLAs, and now the state government has come into a minority.
In the 30-member Puducherry Assembly, the Congress-DMK alliance now has a figure of 14 MLAs, which is one less than the majority required to form the government.
After the resignation, both the government and the opposition have 14-14 MLAs now.
Four MLAs including senior leader Namasivayam and Kamarajanagar MLA John Kumar have resigned in the last few days. Two other veteran Congress leaders and MLAs Thippanjan and Malladi Krishna Rao have also given a big blow to the Congress by resigning. After this, the government that was running with the support of the 3 DMK MLAs is now under complete minority.
All of these came just a day before Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Union Terrority. Rahul Gandhi will ne visiting Puducherry tomorrow to discuss the strategy of 2021 assembly elections.
