A girl was brutally stabbed to death by three men on a street in Maharashtra’s Pune city on Tuesday evening when she was on her way to Kabaddi practice, police said. Prima facie, a “one-sided” love affair by a distant relative of the girl, a class 8 student, might have led to the brutal murder, an official said.
The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Kshitija, who was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“Kshitija was on her way to practice Kabaddi in the evening at Yash Lawns in the Bibewadi area around 5.45 pm when her relative Hrishikesh alias Shubham Bhagwat (22) came on his friend’s motorcycle and brutally attacked the girl with a sharp weapon. She was stabbed multiple times and the attack was so brutal that the girl died on the spot”, Namrata Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Maharashtra, said.
Sunil Zaware, senior inspector at the Bibwewadi police station said after killing the girl, the trio fled the spot. “However, we have managed to apprehend two accused, who are minors, while the main accused (who is major) is still at large,” he informed.
Zaware added the 22-year-old accused, Shubham Bhagwat, is a distant relative of the girl and used to stay at her house.
