The Punjab government on Wednesday announced a night curfew till the month-end as the state is witnessing a spike in Covid-19 infections.
The night curfew will remain in effect from 9 pm to 5 am daily across the entire state. Notably, the state had earlier imposed the curfew in 12 worst effected districts of the state till April 10.
In line with the new restrictions, the states has announced ban on political, social, cultural and sports gatherings. Other public events such as A cap has also been put on attendance at funerals, weddings and cremations. Only 50 people can attend indoor functions, and 100 for outdoors.
The new guidelines would also include restrictions on running cinema houses at 50 per cent capacity. In a slight relaxation, entry of 10 people per shot at malls at any point has been allowed in comparison from the 100 people allowed in a mall at one time.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has expressed concern over the high positivity and mortality rate in the state. “Over 85 per cent cases in Punjab are of the UK strain, which is more contagious and virulent,” the Chief Minister said in his weekly review of covid-19 situation.
62 more people died from coronavirus in Punjab, while there were over 2,900 new cases, the Health Department said on Tuesday.
