Qatar Court Issues Death Sentence to Eight Former Navy Personnel in Espionage Case

Qatar Court: Eight former Navy personnel were given death sentences by a Qatar court on Thursday, October 26, in connection with an espionage case. The Indian Foreign Ministry has released a statement on the matter stating that they are taken aback by the ruling about the death penalty and are awaiting a copy of the full verdict.

The ministry said, “We are in touch with the family members and the legal team and are exploring all legal options.” We consider this matter very important and are keeping a close eye on it. Will continue to provide all consular and legal assistance. Will also raise the decision with Qatari authorities. These eight individuals are employed by the Qatar-based Al Dahra Company, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs. Actually, since October 2022 of last year, these eight Indians have been detained in Qatar.

Espionage Accusations and Diplomatic Moves

Qatar has allegedly accused former Navy personnel of spying on the submarine programme, according to news agency ANI. India attempted to use consular access to secure their release.
