In response to the passing of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, the Indian government has announced that there will be a day of state mourning on September 11 across the country, according to an announcement made by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday, September 9, 2022.
The Ministry of Home in a statement said, “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland passed away on 8th September 2022. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of India has decided that there will be one day State Mourning on September 11th throughout India.”
The statement said, “There will be no official entertainment on the day of Mourning, and the National Flag will be displayed at half mast on all buildings throughout India where the National Flag is flown regularly.
The political community expressed its condolences when Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-reigning queen, passed away on Thursday at the age of 96. The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral, according to a statement from the Royal Family. The King and Queen Consort will stay at Balmoral this evening and travel back to London tomorrow.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for Queen Elizabeth II’s passing and praised her “inspiring leadership.” The Prime Minister reflected on his memorable encounters with the Queen during his UK visits in 2015 and 2018 on Twitter. PM Modi tweeted, “I will always appreciate that gesture. During one of the meetings, she showed me the handkerchief Mahatma Gandhi handed her at her wedding. I will never forget her warmth and kindness.”
On this sorrowful occasion, President Droupadi Murmu also expressed his sympathies. The President tweeted, “The world has lost a great personality with the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the UK. An era has passed since she guided her people and country for more than seven decades. I share the UK people’s sorrow and offer my sincere condolences to the family.
