The actor R Madhavan was nominated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) as the president and chairman of the governing council of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society on Friday.
Shekhar Kapur’s term as president and director came to an end on March 3, 2023.
“Mr R Madhvan has been appointed the President of FTII Society and Chairman of the Governing Council. The decision has been formally conveyed to us by the Ministry,” FTII Registrar Sayyid Rabeehashmi said.
Twelve people were nominated by the FTII Society, which is led by the organization’s chairman. Eight of these nominees come into the “Persons of Eminence” category, while four are FTII alumni. When naming Anupam Kher as institute head in October 2017, the Ministry broke from its custom of nominating the members at the same time. Given that other nominated members have not been appointed, the Ministry appears to have followed a similar procedure with Madhavan’s appointment. A governing council, academic council, and standing finance committee are formed once the required quorum of 24 members, including 12 ex-officio members, has been reached.
Madhavan is renowned for his roles in blockbuster films like Rang De Basanti, Tanu Weds Manu, and 3 Idiots. His most recent film, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, was directed.
