Rahul Gandhi Extends Eid Milad-Un-Nabi Wishes
In a post shared on platform X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi wrote, “Eid Milad-Un-Nabi Mubarak to all. May this auspicious occasion bring peace, joy, and compassion to our hearts and homes. Wishing everyone happiness and prosperity.”
Controversial US Trip and the Sikh Community Remarks
Due to his words regarding the Sikh community and his talks with US lawmakers who are renowned for their critical stance towards India, Rahul Gandhi’s recent US trip caused controversy. Rahul Gandhi asked a Sikh journalist, Bhalinder Virmani, pointed questions at a public event in Virginia. He wanted to know if Sikhs in India were free to wear religious symbols like turbans and Karas and if they could visit Gurudwaras without any problems. Many criticised Gandhi’s remarks, believing that he was casting doubt on India’s commitment to religious freedom.
Adding to the controversy, Gandhi’s meeting with US lawmaker Ilhan Omar raised eyebrows. Omar, who has been vocal about her opposition to India’s policies and has even visited Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, is considered by many as someone aligned with anti-India sentiments. Her interactions with Gandhi were perceived as aligning with views contrary to India’s national interest, which further intensified the backlash.
Understanding the Significance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi
Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Milad-un-Nabi or Mawlid, marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated on the 12th of Rabi Ul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. This year, the festivities began on the evening of Sunday, September 15, 2024, and will conclude on Monday, September 16, 2024.
The celebration focuses on reflecting on the life, teachings, and character of Prophet Muhammad. His message of forgiveness, compassion, and justice remains a guiding light for Muslims around the world. While some communities celebrate with processions and prayers, others prefer a more solemn observance, keeping festivities minimal to honor the Prophet’s humility.
