Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader, revealed on Monday that Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states have committed to conducting a caste census, calling it as a groundbreaking decision. During a press conference, Gandhi stated that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) met earlier in the day for an extensive discussion on the caste census.
Gandhi emphasized that this decision represents significant progress in addressing the needs of economically disadvantaged people in India, emphasizing that it is not driven by religious or caste considerations.
Opposition alliance parties are in favor
When asked about the support from the INDIA alliance for this decision, Gandhi said that the majority of opposition alliance parties are in favor of it, although a few may have reservations. He stressed the Congress’s flexibility in this matter.
New developmental era for India
Referring to the caste census as an “X-ray,” Gandhi asserted that it would usher in a new developmental era for India. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was present at the press conference, stated that he has requested the release of the caste census conducted in Karnataka, which will be made public once submitted to the government.
Additionally, the article mentioned the Election Commission’s announcement of assembly election dates in five states and their respective polling and counting schedules.
