Congress leader and ex-MP, Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Gujarat on Monday (April 3, 2023) as his appeal will move in the sessions court in which he has challenged his two-year conviction in the ‘Modi Surname’ case. The Surat court has given Rahul Gandhi 30 days to appeal against the order. The Congress leader was granted bail in the case. The Congress is adamant in fighting the matter both politically and legally and will take the issue to the public.
Rahul Gandhi to demand a stay in defamation
The Surat court had found guilty of criminal defamation fr his Modi Surname remark which he had made during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi is expected to demand a stay on the conviction in the defamation case as the legal team prepares the plea which will be filed in Surat’s sessions court.
“Rahul Gandhi is likely to travel to Surat, Gujarat tomorrow as an appeal will be moved in the Sessions court there against his conviction and two-year- sentence in defamation case: Congress sources,” ANI said.

Rahul Gandhi disqualified
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha after he was charged guilty in the defamation case.
“Consequent upon his conviction by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Surat. Rahul Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction i.e. 23 March, 2023,” the notification read.
