Rahul Gandhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will face arrest after the upcoming Lok Sabha polls for allegedly instigating violence and disrupting peace in the state during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Sarma stated that a special investigation team has been formed to probe the allegations against Gandhi and other Congress leaders for their roles in the reported violence, provocation, and damage to public property during the Yatra.
Political Motivation Alleged in Gandhi’s Attempt to Enter Batadrava Shrine
Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi of politically motivated actions, specifically highlighting his attempt to enter the Batadrava shrine in central Assam’s Nagaon district. The Chief Minister asserted that Gandhi’s intentions were to attract media attention and create trouble. Sarma suggested alternative places Gandhi could have visited along the Yatra route, questioning his commitment to Assam, Hinduism, and revered figures like Bhupen Hazarika and Srimanta Sankaradeva.
Legal Proceedings and Gandhi’s Response
The criminal case registered against Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders for violating various laws during a road event in Guwahati has been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department. The FIR against Gandhi includes non-bailable charges. In response, Gandhi, addressing rallies on the last day of his Yatra in Assam, accused the BJP-led government of pre-planned attacks and labeled Himanta Biswa Sarma as the “most corrupt Chief Minister,” alleging injustice committed on the people with impunity. The Chief Minister was accused of owning various resources, including coal, tea gardens, newspapers, TV channels, and resorts in Kaziranga.
