Rahul Gandhi: During his visit to Maharashtra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recent collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue in the the election-bound state. Addressing a gathering, Gandhi raised concerns over the reasons behind the Prime Minister’s public apology and raised 3 big questions.

Rahul Gandhi Sparks Questions on PM Modi’s Apology

In a video shared on social media, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha posed three potential reasons behind PM Modi’s apology. He asked whether the apology was due to:

  1. Awarding contracts to RSS-affiliated individuals without merit,
  2. Corruption in the construction of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue,
  3. Or insulting the legacy of a revered figure like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Gandhi strongly criticised the Prime Minister and the BJP, claiming that they have wronged not only Maharashtra but also the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, demanding an apology to every resident of the state.

Statue Unveiled by PM Modi Last Year

The statue, unveiled by PM Modi in December 2023 during Navy Day celebrations in Sindhudurg, collapsed on August 26, raising widespread concerns. Following the incident, the Prime Minister publicly apologised to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and those affected, stating, “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name or a king; He is our deity. I bow my head at his feet and apologise.”
