Setback for BJP
The BJP faced a setback in Karnataka as its MLA ST Somashekar cross-voted in favor of Congress candidate Ajay Maken. Another BJP MLA, Arbail Shivaram Hebbar, abstained from voting. This led to the BJP securing only one out of the four seats in the Rajya Sabha.
Unity and Integrity of Congress
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed his happiness over the Congress victory, highlighting the unity and integrity of the party. He thanked all MLAs, party workers, and acknowledged the support of voters, Chief Minister, and party leaders.
Rebels’ Stance
MLAs Somashekar and Hebbar, who were reportedly upset with the BJP leadership, had shown alignment with Congress in recent months. Somashekar, representing Yashwantpur assembly constituency, explained that he voted according to his conscience, emphasizing support for those working on development projects in his constituency.
Election Scenario
In a five-candidate fray for the four Rajya Sabha seats, JD(S) contestant D Kupendra Reddy also contested. The results indicate political dynamics and shifts within the state, with cross-voting playing a crucial role in the outcome.
