Ranjit Singh Murder Case: Ram Rahim convicted in the murder of his manager

A special CBI court in Haryana’s Panchkula on Friday booked Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others under section 302, 120B of IPC in connection with the murder of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh. The court will announce the sentence on October 12.

Dera manager Ranjit Singh’s differences with Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim escalated after allegations of alleged rape of a Sadhvi in the Dera surfaced. After this, on July 10, 2002, he was shot near his fields in Khanpur Koliyan village of Kurukshetra district.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim is currently lodged in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak district. On August 25, 2017, a special CBI court in Panchkula had convicted him of raping two sadhvis (female disciples) and sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment. On January 17, 2019, the same CBI court had also sentenced him to life imprisonment in the murder case of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati.

After the conviction of Ram Rahim in 2017, there was heavy violence in Panchkula, in which more than 30 people died. His followers had done heavy vandalism and arson in many places including Panchkula, Chandigarh, Sirsa. Then a case of sedition was registered against many Dera supporters including Raah Rahim and his adopted daughter Honeypreet.

According to the information received, Ram Rahim, Krishna, Sabdil, Avtar, Jasbir have been convicted in the case, while another accused Indersain has died. Earlier, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted on 25 August 2017 in the Sadhvi sexual abuse case.
