Rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim gets 21 days furlough

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a life sentence in jail, has got a furlough of 21 days. Furlough refers to temporary leave granted for a fixed period, which in cases of law is usually given to prisoners serving long prison terms.

The Dera chief, who has been in jail since 2017, has been released from jail for the first time. There is information that he can come out of jail by Monday evening.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in 2017 for raping two followers, after which a special CBI court in the 2002 murder of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh, Dera Sacha The Sauda chief and four others were sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday and are still Rohtak’s Sunaria is lodged in jail.

In this case, the CBI had demanded death penalty for him. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 31 lakh on the Dera chief and ordered to pay half the amount to the victim’s family as compensation.
