Ratan Tata: The chairman emeritus of the Tata Group of Industries, Ratan Tata, celebrated his 85th birthday on Wednesday, and social media was swamped with congratulations and expressions of support. On this day in 1937, the renowned Indian businessman and industrialist was born in Mumbai. He serves as an inspiration to millions of people throughout the world.
On his special day, Twitter users flocked to wish him well, and #RatanTata quickly became a trending topic. Political figures sent their birthday greetings as well, including Devendra Fadnavis of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aaditya Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction).
The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra tweeted: “Heartiest birthday greetings to the legendary Shri Ratan Tata ji! Sir, wishing you a very long life and very good health!”

Ratan Tata, the journey explained
Naval Ratan Tata was born on December 28, 1937. He was from Bombay (now, Mumbai). Ratan Tata’s great-grandfather, Jamsetji Tata, founded the Tata Group. His grandmother, Navajbai Tata, raised him. When his parents separated in 1948, he was just ten years old. He had his early schooling in Mumbai before graduating in 1955 from New York City’s Riverdale Country School. In order to obtain a degree in structural engineering and architecture, Tata enrolled at Cornell University in 1959. Later, in 1975, he enrolled at Harvard Business School for a management programme.
At the Tata company, Ratan Tata started his first employment. His initial responsibility at Tata Steel was to keep an eye on the limestone dump and the blast furnace. Ratan Tata chose to work for his family’s business than accepting the job offer from IBM.
He previously acknowledged that there was a point when he fell in love while he was working in Los Angeles. The girl’s parents, however, were against sending her to India because of the 1962 Indo-China War. He never got married after that.
The Tata Group’s revenues surged more than 40 times under his capable direction. Over fifty times more money was made. After just making $5.7 billion in 1991, the corporation made over $103 billion in 2016.
Over the course of his lengthy career, he successfully accomplished several important mergers for his company, including the mergers of Tetley and Tata Tea, Land Rover and Jaguar, and Corus and Tata Steel. All of these have a big impact on the Tata Group’s extraordinary expansion.
He kept his word in 2009 and produced the Tata Nano, the least expensive vehicle in India, with a price tag of Rs. 1 lakh.
He oversaw the establishment of a $28 million scholarship fund for Indian undergraduate students at Cornell University by the Tata Group.
Ratan Tata also gave $50 million in 2010 to help the Harvard Business School, where he got his undergraduate education, create an executive centre. This space was known as Tata Hall.
The Indian industrialist is well known for his unwavering commitment to cars. He reportedly owns numerous different types of vehicles, including the Ferrari California, Cadillac XLR, Land Rover Freelander, Chrysler Sebring, Honda Civic, Mercedes Benz S-Class, Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes Benz 500 SL, Jaguar F-Type, Jaguar CFTR, and many more.
Recent modifications have resulted in the addition of a kennel for stray dogs to his Bombay House offices. There are toys, food, water, and a play area in this kennel. In keeping with tradition, Ratan Tata has a strong bond with these dogs. Since Jamsetji Tata’s time, the Bombay House had a tradition of allowing stray dogs inside during the rainy season.
He is not included in lists of billionaires or the richest persons in the world because the family and the company contribute more than 65% of their wealth to charity.
Ratan Tata has also received the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan awards in honour of his remarkable contributions to the development of India through the building of healthcare facilities and enhanced educational institutions.
