Republic Day 2023: The presence of the Egyptian Army contingent was one of the 74th Republic Day’s many firsts. The host nation for Republic Day 2023 is Egypt. 144 Egyptian army soldiers marched on the Kartavya path to start the parade, led by Colonel Mahmoud Mohamed abdel Fattah El Kharasawy.The 74th Republic Day celebration’s chief guest is Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Additionally, this is the first time an Egyptian president has been invited to attend Republic Day as the chief guest. In May 2014, El-Sisi was chosen to serve as Egypt’s sixth president. He earned his degree from the Egyptian Military Academy in 1977, and in 2010 he was appointed director of intelligence. He was appointed defence minister in August 2012 and served as the head of the Egyptian armed forces until he resigned in March 2014 to run for president.

Additional Directorate General of Public Information stated in a Tweet on January 23 that, “Exercise #Cyclone 2023 #SpecialForces troops of #IndianArmy & #EgyptArmy exercised Special Heliborne Operations during the ongoing joint exercise at #Jaisalmer. #IndianArmy #OnPathToTransformation.”
Concerned about the global spread of terrorism
El-Sisi met with PM Modi the day before, and they talked about increasing bilateral trade to $12 billion over the following five years. The two leaders also had in-depth conversations about bolstering the pharmaceutical and food supply chains that have been impacted by COVID and the conflict in Ukraine. After meeting with the Egyptian president, the prime minister spoke to the media and stated that both Egypt and India are concerned about the global spread of terrorism.
Coordinated action is required to stop cross-border terrorism-PM Modi
PM Modi said, “We all agree that the greatest security threat to humanity today is terrorism. Both nations concur that coordinated action is required to put an end to cross-border terrorism. Together, we’ll keep working to raise awareness of this with the international community.” He further added, “Our armies’ capacity-building and joint exercise training have significantly increased over the past few years. At today’s meeting, we also decided to further our defence industry cooperation and improve the flow of information and intelligence pertaining to counterterrorism.”
