Nidhi Razdan has stepped down from her position as the Executive Editor of NDTV, three days after the departure of her colleague Sreenivasan Jain who concluded his 30-year stint with the channel. This latest resignation at the network is part of a series that have occurred following the Adani acquisition.
Spree of resignations at NDTV
Nidhi Razdan made the announcement of her resignation on Twitter, referring to her experience at NDTV as a “roller coaster ride.” Sreenivasan Jain, the host of the programmes Reality Check and Truth vs. Hype, had tweeted his resignation on Saturday. Suparna Singh, the channel’s group president, Arijit Chatterjee, and Kawaljit Singh Bedi, its chief strategy officer and chief technology officer, all left the network earlier this month.
NDTV has announced that it is in the process of forming a new leadership team to establish a new strategy and goals for the broadcaster following a series of resignations. In November, NDTV founders Prannoy and Radhika Roy sold 27.26% of their 32.26% remaining stake in the company to the Adani conglomerate, making the Adani Group the majority shareholder after an open offer.
Change after the Adani takeover
The Roys resigned as directors of NDTV promoter RRPR and were replaced by Sudipta Bhattacharya of Adani Group, Sanjay Pugalia of Adani’s AMG Media Network, and journalist Senthil Sinniah Chengalvarayan. At an NDTV town hall meeting after the Adani takeover, the new leadership addressed staff questions on editorial freedom, salaries, expansion, and the presence of BJP spokespersons on the network’s shows.
According to a staff member, many employees choose to remain with NDTV not for the money but rather for the kind of journalism that is conducted at the channel. This could not alter, according to Pugalia, the new director, who asserted that NDTV’s trustworthiness serves as the foundation of its offering.
