S Jaishankar explains why Modi’s US visit is significant

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US would have important consequences. Jaishankar said that this would be the first time that an Indian Prime Minister would address the US Congress for the second time. Prime Minister Modi is visiting the US from June 21-24 at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. He will host Modi for a state dinner on 22 June. During the visit, Modi will also address a joint session of the Congress on June 22.

Modi’s US visit is significant

Modi’s state visit to the US would send to China and Pakistan, the Union minister said when a prime minister visits a country, it takes our (India’s) relations forward. I understand this is a globalized world, so if something happens, it may or may not have an impact on others. We look at it from the perspective of our relations, for our own interests.

Jaishankar addressed a function organized in South Delhi’s Badarpur under the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign Sampark to mark the completion of nine years of the Modi government. During this, he also answered the questions of the journalists. He said that the Prime Minister is going on a state visit, which is a mark of respect of the highest order. So, the respect he will get is something very few people have got so far.

He said the Prime Minister would address a joint session of the US Congress. No Indian Prime Minister has addressed it twice. This will happen for the first time. Very few people in the world have done this. There are very few people who have addressed the US Congress twice. The External Affairs Minister said that this is an important visit and its outcome will be seen later.
