TN Governor: Tamil Nadu’s ruling party DMK has sent a petition to President Droupadi Murmu, seeking Governor RN Ravi’s immediate removal. Calling him “a threat to peace”, DMK accused the TN Governor of “obstructing a democratically elected government from serving the people”. DMK also accused Ravi of instigating communal hatred. The petition has been signed by party MLAs as well as MLAs of its ally Congress.
“He has violated the oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law,” the DMK led by Chief Minister MK Stalin said in the memorandum to the President.
Pending Bills
The memorandum mentions 20 Bills passed by the assembly that are awaiting the governor’s assent. These Bills include one that takes away the governor’s powers to appoint vice-chancellors and give those powers to the state government.
“Some might even consider his statements seditious as his statements attempt to excite disaffection towards the government,” DMK led by chief minister MK Stalin said. Calling Ravi unfit for the office, the party said, “He deserves to be sacked.”
DMK also said that the governor “cannot sit as an appellate authority over decisions of the cabinet or the legislature.” RN Ravi has “usurped the powers of the President” by returning a Bill rather than forwarding to the President, the memorandum added.

Divisive rhetoric
Quoting Ravi’s comment that “India is dependent on one religion”, the memorandum said his speeches amounted to “divisive rhetoric”.
Calling it “an affront to India’s Constitution”, the party said his statements “caused deep wounds to the Tamil sentiment and pride”.
“Some might even consider his statements seditious as his statements attempt to excite disaffection towards the government,” they said and added RN Ravi is “unfit” for the constitutional office. “He deserves to be sacked.”
The Governor has not reacted to the memo.
