Satya Pal Malik: Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to his assertion that he was given a Rs 300-crore bribe to clear two files during his time in J&K.
When Satya Pal Malik served as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019, he alleged that he was promised a Rs 300 billion bribe in exchange for clearing files.
Malik was interrogated following the conclusion of his five-year term as governor of Meghalaya on October 4.
The two FIRs were filed by the CBI in April in relation to allegations of corruption made by Satya Pal Malik regarding the awarding of contracts for a group health insurance plan for public employees and civil work totaling Rs 2,200 crore associated with the Kiru hydroelectric power project in the former state.
Career politician Satya Pal Malik was named governor of Bihar in 2017 before being transferred to Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. There, in August 2019, he oversaw the repeal of Article 370. After Karan Singh’s time as governor of Jammu and Kashmir ended in 1967, it took 51 years for the first career politician to be nominated to the position.

At Meerut University, Satya Pal Malik began his political career as a student leader. He was elected an MLA in 1974. In 1984, he joined the Congress and was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Three years later, however, he resigned due to the Bofors scandal. In 1988, he joined the V P Singh-led Janta Dal, and on their platform, he was elected as an MP from Aligarh in 1989.
Satya Pal Malik joined the BJP in 2004 and lost to Ajit Singh, the son of the late prime minister Charan Singh, in the Lok Sabha elections.
He was in charge of the BJP’s Kisan Morcha before taking the oath of office as governor of Bihar on October 4, 2017. From April 21, 1990, to November 10, 1990, he served as the Union’s minister of state for parliamentary affairs, tourism, and trade.
