SC extends interim bail granted to Mohammed Zubair

The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s interim bail till further orders in a case lodged against him for allegedly outraging religious sentiments in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The next hearing will be on September 7.

Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, appearing for Zubair, said that he had already been granted interim bail by the vacation bench of the Supreme Court a few days ago and they would also like to file their reply to the counter affidavit to be filed by the state government.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the State government, said that it wants to file its reply to Zubair’s plea seeking quashing of the FIR lodged in the case.

Earlier on July 8, Justices Indira Banerjee and J K Maheshwari had directed that Zubair’s plea be listed before a regular bench. Issuing notice, it also granted him five days’ interim bail on the condition that he shall not tweet or tamper with electronic evidence.
