Today, 200 Indian fishermen who were allegedly arrested for fishing without a licence in Pakistani seas will be released from Malir District Jail in Karachi. This is the second group of Indian fishermen that Pakistani officials had freed.
At the Wagah border, the fishermen would be turned over to Indian officials.
198 Indian fishermen were freed from the Malir prison on May 12. 200 initially intended to be made available in the initial batch as well. But on May 6 and May 9, Zulfiqar and Soma Deva both died in custody, just days before they were set to be released. According to accounts, the two had been unwell for some time.
On July 3, 100 Indian fishermen from the third group are anticipated to be released.
