Shashi Tharoor: Following the statement made by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, there has been a political commotion. Pinarayi Vijayan stated that two Muslims were the ones who initially used the phrases Bharat Mata ki Jai and Jai Hind during a programme on Monday, March 25, 2024. The political climate around this has also heated up concurrently. Shashi Tharoor, a Congress MP, responded to this with venom. It is significant that the Kerala Chief Minister made this declaration at a protest against CAA.
Shashi Tharoor’s Response
Speaking to the media on Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, “Quite ironic, I wonder if he doesn’t even have a staff member who can Google and find out the truth. The truth is that when the CAA Bill was brought in Parliament, I opposed its introduction and I condemned the Bill in the debate explaining why it was unconstitutional and a violation of Article 14.”
He further said that, “The Constitution makes it abundantly clear that your caste, religion, language, place of birth, whatever is irrelevant. Your citizenship is on the same level as every other citizen, I am well aware how strongly and how consistently the Congress has opposed this issue. The Communist Party had made minimal contribution to the freedom struggle, and today they are trying to take advantage of it in the most disgustingly dishonest way and gain political mileage.”
Controversial Statement by Pinarayi Vijayan
Actually The chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, has stirred up controversy by claiming that Muslims invented the nationalistic sayings “Jai Hind” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Speaking on Monday at a rally in the largely Muslim region of Malappuram, Vijayan emphasised the significance of Muslims in India’s history and liberation movement.
