Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal on Monday after a third explosion linked to illegal firecrackers was recorded in the state. “The situation in West Bengal is far worse than the situation in Ukraine,” the opposition leader in the state house declared.
“The condition of West Bengal is worse than that of Ukraine. There is not much explosion happening in Ukraine as it is happening in Bengal. Even though the situation has become a bit peaceful there but recently explosions are going on in Bengal,” while speaking to news agency ANI, Adhikari.
In the state’s Birbhum district, the recent explosion allegedly took place in the home of a regional TMC leader. Similar incident that occurred earlier on Sunday in the South 24 Parganas area resulted in the deaths of three family members. On May 16, a massive explosion followed by two back-to-back bombings left 12 people dead in the Purba Medinipur area.
Adhikari also discussed the Supreme Court’s hearing on TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee’s petition challenging the Calcutta high court order allowing the CBI and ED to investigate him in connection with the multi-billion School Service Commission recruitment scam, which is scheduled for May 26.
“Law is equal for everyone but my allegation is on Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) is that they have left Mamata Banerjee in Saradha chit fund scam, her nephew (Abhishek Banerjee) in case of coal and cow smuggling,” he said.
The TMC leader was previously detained by the CBI for questioning about the school recruitment scandal; however, he afterwards blasted the agency for its prompt summons of him.
