Surprisingly, according to some media reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third-term cabinet is unlikely to include prominent BJP officials and former Union Ministers like Smriti Irani, Anurag Thakur and Narayan Rane.

Smriti Irani’s Electoral Setback

In the Lok Sabha election, Smriti Irani—who had previously held the position of Minister for Women and Child Development—was defeated in the Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh. By a margin of more than 1.6 lakh votes, she was defeated by Kishori Lal Sharma, the Congress candidate. This defeat follows her stunning five-year-old triumph over Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, which attracted a lot of attention.

Anurag Thakur’s Exclusion

It is also not planned for Anurag Thakur, the Hamirpur-based BJP politician who previously served as the government’s information and broadcasting and sports ministers, to rejoin the Union Cabinet. Reports claim that he was left out of the new lineup despite his election triumph.
