Snowfall Update: According to authorities, despite the Meteorological Department’s forecast for rain and snow starting on Thursday, the cold wave conditions in Kashmir worsened as the lowest temperature across the valley fell even lower below the freezing point. The temperature in Srinagar dropped from minus 2.7 degrees Celsius the previous night to minus 4.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, according to reports. Two degrees below average for the lowest temperature.

A low of – 11.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at Pahalgam in the Anantnag district, which also functions as the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra. The overnight low in the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg in the Baramulla area was likewise at minus 11.5 degrees Celsius. From January 19 to 21, the sky will stay gloomy, and there may be isolated or dispersed chances of light rain or snow, particularly in higher regions.
There is a chance of widespread moderate snowfall in Kashmir’s plains (along with rain in Jammu), as well as moderate to heavy snowfall over the region’s middle and higher reaches, according to the forecast, which calls for precipitation of a much higher intensity from the evening of January 22 to the morning of January 24.
Fresh snowfall predicted for Himachal Pradesh
On Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh will see severe snowfall over the next seven days. Most states are in the sub-zero range, and the local temperature has dropped by three to four degrees. The weather in the alpine state would not dramatically alter over the following two days, according to IMD.
The lowest temperature was recorded at minus 11 degrees Celsius in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti, and temperatures are expected to continue to drop over the next few days. Temperatures in Shimla were recorded at 0 degrees Celsius.
Shimla and neighbouring locations may receive a lot of snow throughout the forthcoming week. Between January 22 and 26, another powerful western disturbance is anticipated in the area, according to an IMD official. Nearly 115 routes in the state remain blocked as a result of the recent snowfall.
