He wrote on Twitter, “Successfully completed a sortie on the Tejas. The experience was incredibly enriching, significantly bolstering my confidence in our country’s indigenous capabilities, and leaving me with a renewed sense of pride and optimism about our national potential.”
PM Modi was scheduled to review and visit HAL’s manufacturing facility, including the facility for Tejas jets.
Advancing Indigenous Defence Production
Amidst the Tejas sortie, PM Modi‘s scheduled review of HAL’s manufacturing facility reflects a strategic emphasis on advancing indigenous production in the defence sector. This aligns with the Prime Minister’s broader vision of boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing dependence on foreign imports. Furthermore, the recent tender by the Indian Air Force to HAL for 12 advanced Su-30MKI fighter jets underscores India’s commitment to fortifying its aerial prowess through collaborations with the state-owned HAL and Russian original equipment manufacturers.
Global Interest in Tejas
In another noteworthy development, several countries have expressed interest in procuring Tejas, the light combat aircraft. During PM Modi’s state visit to the US, a pact was inked between HAL and US defence giant GE Aerospace to jointly produce engines for the Mk-II-Tejas, showcasing the global recognition of India’s technological advancements in the aerospace sector.
