Sonia Gandhi to hold meeting with congress MPs over Covid surge

Amid the spiraling surge in the number of Covid-19 cases across the country, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi has called for a meeting with the party MPs on Friday, sources said on Thursday.

As the number of Covid cases and fatalities are increasing, Sonia Gandhi has called a virtual meeting at 11 a.m. on Friday with the party’s Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs to discuss the situation, a party official confirmed.

Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi will hold a meeting via video conference with the party’s Lok Sabha MPs tomorrow, to discuss the current COVID19 situation in the country, reported ANI.

This comes as India reported a record surge of 4.12 lakh in the last 24-hour, taking the total tally past 2.2 crore. In the same time, the country also reported 3,980, the health ministry said. This was the second time that the tally breached the 4-lakh mark, after 4,02,351 infections were recorded on April 30. The total death toll is now 23,01,68 while the infection tally increased to 2,10,77,410, the data updated at 8 am showed.
