BBC documentary: Unidentified miscreants threw stones at a group of Jawaharlal Nehru University students who were watching the controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday evening. Students alleged power and internet on the campus was also disrupted to thwart the screening. They alleged ABVP was behind the incident. Police arrived at the university after students alleged stone pelting amid blackout.

Watching on mobile phones
According to reports, students were watching the documentary on their phones when, they alleged, a brick was also thrown at them. The miscreants could not be identified in the dark as there was no power on the campus.
Students blocked the university gate to demand police intervention. JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh said it was unsafe for the students to go back to their hostel without electricity on the campus.
Students filed a complaint at Vasant Kunj police station against 25 miscreants.
Event cancelled on Monday
Earlier on Monday morning, the JNU administration cancelled the screening of the BBC documentary after posters announcing the event surfaced. The documentary was to be screened at 9 pm on Tuesday in the student body’s office.
However, the students insisted on screening and wrote a letter to the administration saying, only those with “voluntary interest” would take part in the screening.
When the administration cut off the electricity on the campus in the evening, the JNU students’ body shared links with students and asked them to gather together to watch the documentary on their mobile phones.
Police were deployed on the campus ahead of the screening.
