As the recently launched Vande Bharat express passed through Thirunavaya and Tirur in the state’s Malappuram district, stones were hurled at it. There have been no injuries.
Attackers broke the windows in seats 62 and 63 of the C4 coach by throwing stones at them. Police in Malappuram have started an investigation and are scouring the area. According to a PTI report, the railway police would also file a report.
Southern Railways officials are keeping an eye on the situation and have decided to increase the train’s security for the next 15 days.
On April 25, the inaugural Vande Bharat train for Kerala was flagged off
On April 25, the inaugural Vande Bharat train for Kerala was flagged off from the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station. The United Democratic Front, an alliance in the state headed by the Congress, protested in favour of stops at the Tirur station in the Malappuram neighbourhood.
When the Vande Bharat train was first announced, Tirur was also listed among the stops. Later, when Shornur was added, it was dropped.
K Surendran, the leader of the Kerala BJP, tweeted his strong condemnation of the attack in response to it and posted a video showing the train’s broken windows.
“Strongly condemn the stone pelting against Vande Bharat Express in Malappuram. This incident is extremely unfortunate and brings shame to all of Kerala. From day one, there were vile objections from some quarters. The police should find the culprits and take strict action,” he wrote.
