Sunil Bharti Mittal, the chairman and founder of Bharti Enterprises, is the first Indian citizen to be awarded an honorary knighthood. Mittal received the title of Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) from King Charles III as a recognition of his efforts to forge closer commercial connections between India and the UK.

Expressing his appreciation, Mittal said, “I am deeply humbled by this gracious recognition from His Majesty, King Charles. UK and India share historical relations, which are now entering a new era of increased cooperation and collaboration. I remain committed to working towards strengthening the economic and bilateral trade relationships between our two great nations.” Mittal also recognised that the UK government was instrumental in fostering an atmosphere that was conducive to investment.
