Supreme Court: After the conclusion of one month long summer brake, the Supreme Court of India reopened on Monday with paperless mechanism and technology based set-up. The facility also free WiFi for all the litigants, advocates and other personnel. The announcement was made by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of Cort 1-5 being WiFI enabled which will be extended to bar rooms as well.
All the books and archives since 1950s were kept on either sides in courts and passing lawyers always had little space to remain inside.
Advanced Environment
A senior official Supreme Court official has said that the upgrades are part of CJI’s vision of optimizing technology for judicial services. “As the SC reopens on Monday after the summer vacation, courtrooms 1 to 3 will see futuristic features to bring a technologically advanced environment to the courtrooms. The upgrades, all energy-efficient green initiatives, have been incorporated to implement CJI D Y Chandrachud’s dynamic vision for optimizing use of technology in judiciary and justice delivery systems,” the official said.
The CJI has also stated that going paperless doesn’t mean that court will no longer employ use of books and paper.
LED Walls and Digital Video conferencing
A digital video conferencing (VC) system for purposes of communication and collaboration has been installed in the courtrooms. The system will provide seamless participation in the courtroom activities which will improve the working mechanism in the Supreme Court.
Since taking over the position of CJI DY Chnadrachud has always advocated optimizing use of technology for the activities of courts and judiciary. A senior official has stated “To cater to the diverse connectivity needs of modern technology, cable cubbies have been integrated into these courtrooms. These cubbies are equipped with HDMI outputs, USB C&A ports for charging devices, LAN connections, and power sockets. This advanced infrastructure provides convenient connectivity options, allowing for seamless integration of multimedia devices. A futuristic LED video wall has also been installed in the courtrooms.”
