Government Asserts Deliberate Decision in Supreme Court
The Central Government informed the Supreme Court that this is a well considered administrative matter. This choice was not made hastily and after much consideration. A number of groups, notably the PDP and the National Conference of Jammu and Kashmir, criticised the central government for this action, claiming it violated the rights and violated the sovereignty of the local population. In addition, it was demanded that Articles 370 and 35 be reinstated. TUshar Mehta attacked both parties, saying that people have come to understand what they have lost.Due to the establishment of a police system close to the centre, investment has begun to flow into Jammu and Kashmir since Article 35A was repealed, and tourism has also begun there.
Mehta Highlights 16 Lakh Visitors and New Jobs in Jammu and Kashmir
The Solicitor General emphasised that after separation, around 16 lakh visitors have travelled to Jammu and Kashmir, and new hotels have developed there, creating jobs for many people. Justice Sanjeev Khanna questioned Mehta about two things at the conclusion of the session. First, does making Ladakh a union territory devalue it? like the petitioners claimed. Second, the maximum term is three years as per Article 356 (President’s Rule). This three-year period is now complete. So, it needs to be explained.
