Supreme Court not to use WhatsApp to share video calls links for the hearings

The Supreme Court will no longer share video conference links by WhatsApp groups for the hearing. The registrar of the Supreme Court gave this information on Saturday. The Registrar’s Office issued a circular stating that instead of the WhatsApp group, the registered email IDs and mobile numbers of the lawyers and parties related to that hearing will be used to share the video conference link for the virtual hearing in the court. The Supreme Court has taken this decision keeping in view the recently implemented Information and Technology Rules 2021 (Guidelines for Intermediate and Digital Media Ethics Code).

According to the circular of the Registrar’s Office, “From March 1, the information of the video conference link for the virtual hearing in the court will be given on the registered email IDs and mobile numbers of the respective lawyers and parties.” Also, all lawyers and parties are also informed that, keeping in mind the rules implemented by the Government of India on internet, media and OTT platforms, henceforth to form a WhatsApp group to share video conference links for virtual hearings. is restricted.

The government on Thursday announced comprehensive rules for Internet media firms such as Facebook and Twitter and OTT platforms. In this regard, the Supreme Court today issued a circular saying that the Government’s new Information Technology (Guidance for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 have been taken into account. According to the new rules, the social platform will have to remove the content that the government has objected to within a maximum of 36 hours of the government’s order. Social media companies will have to initiate an inquiry on the authority’s order within 72 hours. Along with this, companies will have to provide all necessary help in this matter. Social media platforms must remove the sexual act or conduct content within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.
