Supreme Court takes suo motu cognizance of UP government’s decision on Kanwar Yatra

In view of the possibility of third wave of corona, many state governments have banned Kanwar Yatra, but some states are allowing Kanwar Yatra, Uttar Pradesh government has also approved this journey.

The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the decision of the Uttar Pradesh government to travel to Kanwar. The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to allow Kanwar Yatra amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

A bench headed by Justice RF Nariman issued notices to the Center and UP. The next hearing of the case will be held on Friday, July 16. In Uttar Pradesh, the government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has allowed travel from July 25 despite the threat of a possible third wave of Covid-19.

The Uttarakhand government has decided to cancel the Kanwar Yatra due to the fear of a third wave of corona. The neighboring state of Uttarakhand has taken a decision in view of the increasing case of Corona.

The government says that the case of Corona is not taking its name to stop, so the Kanwar Yatra cannot be allowed. The cases of corona are still coming up in both the states, in such a situation the Kanwar Yatra will not leave from Uttarakhand. At the same time, the Uttar Pradesh government has given permission to travel to Kanwar under the Covid rule.
