Tamil Nadu added 23,888 fresh cases of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours, said the state health department on Tuesday. In the state, 29 people lost their lives to the deadly virus during the last 24 hours. The new fatalities have taken the overall number of deaths in the state to 37,038.
A total of 1,41,562 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. With this, the total count of cases of the disease in the state has gone up to 29,87,254.
During the last 24 hours, 15,036 people recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries in the state to 27,89,045. There are currently 1,61,171 active COVID-19 cases in the state.
Meanwhile, India recorded a dip in daily COVID-19 infections with the country reporting 2,38,018 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Last day, the country reported 20,071 less than that reported on Monday. As of now, country’s active caseload mounted to 17,36,628, which is 4.62 per cent of the total cases reported so far. As many as 310 people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours thereby taking the death toll to 4,86,761.
