Tamil Nadu: A resolution to launch a review petition against the Supreme Court decision upholding the 10% quota for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in government posts was passed with a 3:2 majority during an all-party conference called by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
The EWS reservation is against “social justice and equality and contrary to social justice policy”, claims the DMK-led administration.

103rd Constitutional Amendment divides the poor along caste lines?
The 103rd Constitutional Amendment, which grants the Centre a 10% EWS quota, was rejected at the all-party meeting on Saturday because it is against social justice, contradicts several Supreme Court decisions, and divides the poor along caste lines.
Additionally, it urged the state administration to make compelling claims about social justice and equality when the highest court hears the review appeal against the ruling.
The resolution stated, “To unanimously support the future course of action to protect social justice.”
Two members from each party were called to the consultation conference that was convened in the state secretariat after Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote to all legislative party leaders regarding the issue. The main opposition AIADMK and its partner BJP abstained from the meeting.
Tamil Nadu would not implement the EWS reservation, according to state minister of higher education K Ponmudy.
MK Stalin said the order was a setback to the century-long campaign for social justice on Monday, shortly after the top court upheld the quota in a 3:2 split decision. He urged all like-minded organisations to unite to “make the voice of social justice resound throughout the country.”
