The Tamil Nadu government on Friday extended the lockdown, which ends at 6 am on June 21, for another week. Also revised the exemption further in 27 districts including Chennai, where corona cases are declining. The relaxations already announced for all the districts will continue. Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the new exemption will be applicable from June 14.
Also, the exemption is not applicable to Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai, where Covid-19 cases are still high. The additional relaxation given to 27 districts includes schools, colleges and universities so that they can start administrative work related to admission. Tasmac liquor shops are allowed to open from 10 am to 5 pm.
Export units and vendor units can continue with 50 per cent workforce following SOPs. Rest of the industries will also be allowed with 33 per cent workforce. Workers have already been allowed to travel in four wheelers. The Chief Minister said that now they will be allowed with e-registration for two-wheelers and an identity card issued by the state government.
IT/ITES have been directed to operate with only 20 per cent workforce or a maximum of 10 employees. Housing finance companies, non-banking financial companies and all insurance corporations are allowed with 33 per cent workforce. Beauty parlors, salons and spas will be allowed to function without air conditioning, with only 50 per cent customers between 6 am and 5 pm.
