C Vijaykumar: Tamil Nadu DGI for Coimbatore range C Vijayakumar shot himself dead with a pistol at his residence. On Friday, a senior police officer revealed that the senior police officer committed suicide in Red fields after his morning walk. The body has been sent to Coimbatore Medical College for postmortem.
Vijaykumar’s Suicide
The DGI had went out for a morning walk and returned to his camp around 6.45am. The officer then asked his personal security officer(PSO) for his pistol and went out of the office with it. Vijaykumar shot himself around 6:45 pm. The officials present there then proceeded to inform senior officials about the incident.
In last few weeks Vijaykumar had issues surrounding improper sleep and severe depression. The real reason for his suicide has not been revealed yet.
Background
C Vijaykumar was an IPS of 2009 batch and took over charge as DGI of Coimbatore in January 2023. Earlier in his career he had served superintendent of police in Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts. After this served as deputy commissioner of police in Chennai’s Anna Nagar before his transfer to Coimbatore.
