Tamil Nadu: Villagers from Susaiappar Pattinam in Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur district were outraged at the state of a muddy road and protested by growing grass on it. The villagers sang slogans as well, pleading for officials to address their grievances.
Rainwater collects on the road during the monsoons in the Susaiappar Pattinam village of the Ariyalur district because there are inadequate road and drainage services. Public and educational vehicles utilise this road to travel from Susaiyappar Pattinam to different locations.
Difficulties due to the poor condition of road
About 200 metres of the road are currently in poor condition, making it hard for schoolchildren to walk or ride bikes on it. Even the ordinary populace cannot use it, walk on it, or transfer objects. No action was taken despite many requests to the authorities.
Complaints of villagers
This infuriated the locals, who began a protest by mowing down grass on the slippery, muddy road. After the rain, the road had developed multiple potholes, according to the villagers. They added that although officials had temporarily filled the holes with mud, it had been ineffective.
The Susaiyappar Pattinam road needs to be repaired, drainage channels need to be built on both sides, and efforts need to be taken to turn the route into a tar road, the villagers demanded through today’s protest to the district government.
