US: In California, US, pro-Khalistani slogans were written on a Hindu temple. The incident took place in the city of Newark. The Hindu American Foundation posted images of slogans scrawled on the walls of the Swaminarayan Mandir Vasana Sanstha on X. Pictures depicted derogatory phrases written on the temple wall against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India.
Incident Report to the Department of Justice
The foundation stated that the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and the Newark Police Department had been notified of the incident and that it should be looked into as a hate crime. The defacement of the Swaminarayan Mandir Vasana Sanstha was denounced by the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, which also stated that it has put pressure on US authorities to launch a swift investigation and take swift action against the perpetrators.
Indian Consulate’s Condemnation
“We strongly condemn the defacing of SMVS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at Newark, California with anti-India graffiti. This incident has hurt the sentiments of the Indian community. We have pressed for quick investigation and prompt action against the vandals by the US authorities in this matter,” the Indian Consulate in San Francisco wrote on X. In the US, there have been previous instances of vandalism at Hindu temples. Similar incidents have happened in the past both within the nation and in Canada, its neighbour.
Promotion of Public Event
Recent events include the overnight vandalism of a temple by radicals in Surrey, Canada. Posters about a public event that highlighted the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar were stuck to the temple’s main entrance.
