Abu al-Hasan al-Hashmi al-Qureshi, the leader of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), has died in the fight. ISIS spokesperson gave this information in an audio message posted on Telegram channel. He said that the group has elected Abu al-Hussein al-Hussaini al-Qureshi as the new leader of the terrorist organization. The spokesman said that Abu al-Hasan al-Hashmi al-Qurayshi was killed fighting the enemies. No information has been given about the new IS leader in the audio.
IS declared Abu al-Hasan al-Hashmi al-Qurashi as its new leader in March following the death of its predecessor, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashmi al-Qureshi. Qureshi was the brother of slain former IS caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to two Iraqi security officials and a Western security source.
Qureshi and Baghdadi were killed
Both Qureshi and Baghdadi blew themselves up and family members during US raids on their bases in northern Syria. The Islamic State, which emerged from the chaos of a civil war in neighboring Syria over the past decade, has seized vast swaths of Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The terror still continues
The Islamic State has killed thousands of people in the name of a narrow interpretation of Islam during its brutal rule. Iraqi and international forces defeated the group in Mosul in 2017. Its remaining thousands of militants have been mostly hiding in remote areas in recent years, but are still capable of carrying out significant insurgent-style attacks.
