Anurag Thakur: Union Minister, claimed on Monday that since the Modi administration took office, “Left Wing Extremism occurrences were down by over 265%” and that “terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir reduced by 168%.”
Thakur emphasised that the Modi administration has a “zero tolerance attitude towards terrorism” and that it took immediate measures that produced unmistakable outcomes.

“Surgical strikes in 2016 were in response to the Uri attack. Balakot Air strikes in 2019 were in response to the Pulwama bombing, so all these decisive actions yielded definitive results,” Thakur told the local reporters. According to him, since 2014, insurgency-related violence has reduced by 80%, the number of civilian deaths has decreased by 89%, and 6,000 militants have turned themselves in.
“Terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir have reduced by 168 per cent under the Modi government and the conviction rate in terror financing cases is over 94 per cent,” he claimed.
While the incidences of left-wing extremism have decreased by more than twice, or to over 265%, from June of 2015 to June of this year.
Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, an era of peace has begun in the northeastern region, according to Thakur.
He claimed that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) had been totally repealed in Tripura, Meghalaya, and 60% of Assam.
The Bodo Accord in 2020, the Karbi Anglong Agreement in 2021, and the Assam-Meghalaya Inter-State Boundary Agreement in 2022, according to Thakur, have all been inked to maintain peace in the area.

Thakur made no mention of the precise figures.
On September 29, 2016, India carried out a surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) in retaliation for a terrorist attack on an Army installation in the Uri region of Jammu & Kashmir.
On February 26, 2019, Indian Air Force fighter jets destroyed terror launch sites in Balakot, Pakistan, by flying over the Line of Control.
The attacks were carried out days after a terror attack that left 40 members of the Central Reserve Police Force dead in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, on February 14.
