The Poonch ambush terror plot, according to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has been uncovered, and six villagers have been arrested for sheltering the terrorists before they attacked an army vehicle with explosives and weapons that were sent from Pakistan by drones.
According to Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, the attack on April 20 that resulted in the deaths of five troops was well-planned and carried out by three to five terrorists. They studied the terrain and conducted a reconnaissance before deciding where to launch their attack.
He claimed that more than 200 persons had already been interrogated and that efforts were being made to neutralise the terrorists responsible for the attack.
According to officials, the terrorists in Pakistan employed armour-piercing rounds with steel core created in China during the ambush.
During a visit to the Rajouri district, Singh spoke with reporters and said, “Six persons (of a module) have been arrested. They include those who have provided material (weapons, ammunition, explosives) to the terrorists besides shelter and food and guided them from one to another place.” “We are getting clues during questioning. We are working on that,” he said.
In the foothills of the snow-covered Pir Panjal mountains, Singh, who has travelled to Darhal and remote Budh Khanari, also stated that such incidents are not possible without local support.
“One full module in this has been caught. They were giving them support for past two to three months. A local named Nisar and his family were providing all support from food to shelter. The material (explosives) had come from Pakistan through drone. They picked up the weapons and provided them to the terrorists. Weapons, grenades and ammunition explosives were included in that,” he said.
