Hardeep Singh Nijjar

Hardeep Singh Nijjar: According to a thorough report created by Indian authorities and obtained by NDTV, the murdered Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a terrorist in that country, had ties to the local goons since he was a small child and had been involved in criminal activity since the 1980s. It further claims that Nijjar, who emigrated to Canada in 1996 with a fake passport and lived a quiet life as a truck driver there, went to Pakistan to receive instruction in explosives and weapons. While seeking safety in Canada, he is also accused of ordering multiple murders and assaults in Punjab.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s Path to Extremism

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a resident of the Bhar Singh Pura hamlet in Jalandhar, Punjab, was introduced to the gangster life by Gurnek Singh alias Neka, according to the dossier. He was linked to Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) militants in the 1980s and 1990s, and since 2012, Jagtar Singh Tara, Chief of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), has been a close friend of his, the statement continued. In 1996, Nijjar fled to Canada when his name appeared in a number of terrorism cases. Later, he allegedly made contact with Jagtar Singh Tara, the KTF Chief who is located in Pakistan. According to the dossier, he also travelled to Pakistan in April 2012 while posing as a Baisakhi jatha member and received a two-week long training in explosives and weapons.

Nijjar’s Activities in Canada and Plans for Attacks in India

Following his return to Canada, he allegedly began setting up funding for terrorist operations through his contacts who were involved in drug and weapon smuggling in that country. According to the dossier, Nijjar and Jagtar Singh Tara plotted to carry out a terrorist attack in Punjab, and Nijjar raised a gang in Canada that included Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal, Sarbjit Singh, Anupveer Singh, and Darshan Singh alias Fauji. In December 2015, the gang reportedly received weapons training in British Columbia. The dossier claimed that in 2014, Nijjar intended to carry out a terrorist attack on the Dera Sacha Sauda Headquarters in Sirsa, Haryana, but was unable to travel to India. As a result, the dossier claimed, Nijjar instructed his module to target the former DGP Mohd Izhar Alam, Shiv Sena leader Nishant Sharma, who is based in Punjab, and Baba Mann Singh Pehowa Wale.

Nijjar’s Involvement in Assassination Attempts in Punjab

According to the dossier, Nijjar also collaborated with Moga-born mobster Arshdeep Singh Gill, nicknamed Arsh Dala, to conduct terrorist actions in Punjab. He allegedly assigned Arshdeep to kill both Manohar Lal Arora and Jatinderbir Singh Arora in 2020, the father-and-son team charged with “anti-Panthic activities.” On November 20, 2020, Manohar Lal was shot dead in the attack at his Bathinda home, but his son fled. According to the report, Nijjar sent money from Canada to pay for their assassination. According to reports, Nijjar instructed Arshdeep to kill the village priest in his hometown of Bhar Singh Pura in 2021. The priest, though, lived. In this way, Nijjar is accused of working behind the scenes in Canada to create an environment of terror in Punjab.

Accuses Indian Government of Involvement in Nijjar’s Murder

On June 18, Nijjar was shot and killed outside a Gurdwara in a parking lot in Surrey, British Columbia. With the claim that “credible allegations” were shared with India weeks ago, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today reaffirmed his incendiary claim that “Indian government agents” were responsible for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India quickly and vehemently denied Trudeau’s initial claim that it was responsible for Nijjar’s murder on Monday. India raised the issue of “politically condoned hate crimes and criminal violence” in Canada but claimed that Canada had provided no concrete information supporting its accusations. The claim led to tit-for-tat actions, such as the expulsion of diplomats, which heightened underlying tensions into a significant diplomatic crisis between the two nations. Due to “security threats” to its high commissions and consulates in Canada, India has suspended its visa services.
