Election Commission to demonstrate new type of Election Voting Machine (EVM) on January 16 to political parties
The Election Commission of India expressed concerns about the issue of more than 30 crore voters not exercising their right to vote in a news release on the election’s 67.4% voter turnout today.
Further it acknowledged that internal migration (domestic migrants) prevents people from voting.
Remote voting a transformational step boosting participation in political democracy
There is no central database accessible for migration within the country, which is the biggest hindrance in determining their precise numbers. However, research and data analysis from secondary sources have revealed that factors relating to work, marriage, and education are what drive internal migration in India and the majority of domestic mobility among the rural population is out-migration. The states account for about 85% of internal migration.
Remote voting will be a transformational step for boosting participation in political democracy, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, after a focus on youth and urban apathy.
Additionally, the commission has asked all recognised political parties for their written opinions by January 31 on relevant topics such necessary revisions to laws, administrative processes, and voting techniques or technologies.
