External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that those who have been indulging in cross-border terrorism against India for decades now know that it is a “different India”, which will now answer them for everything. The External Affairs Minister said this while addressing the Indian community in Uganda.
Addressing the Indian community in Uganda on Wednesday, Jaishankar spoke of turning the country into a new India. Speaking about the challenges being faced at India’s borders, Jaishankar said, “Today, people see a different India, one that is ready to fight and an India that will take on national security challenges by all means, be it Uri Or be it Balakot.”
‘Everyone has recognized the new India’
S Jaishankar referred to the 2016 Uri attack on the Indian Army’s brigade headquarters by Jaish-e-Mohammed militants from Pakistan and the 2019 Balakot airstrike on a terrorist training camp by Indian warplanes in Balakot, Pakistan.
“Today those which indulged in cross-border terrorism against India for decades and which India tolerated, now know that this is a different India and this India will give an equal answer to their every move,” he said.
China violated agreements
He also spoke about the challenges along the border with China. He said, “For the last three years, in violation of the agreements, China has brought a large number of forces to the border.” He said that to face them today, the Indian Army is deployed at very high altitude and in extremely difficult conditions.
‘Indian troops have full support, right equipment and infrastructure’
The foreign minister said, “This situation is very different from the initiative, because now the Indian troops have full support, have the right equipment and infrastructure.” He acknowledged that more work has to be done to develop infrastructure along the border with China, which has been neglected in the past. This is a different India, which will stand up for its interests and the world will recognize it,” he said.
New India will not come under anyone’s pressure
S Jaishankar said that today India’s policies are not influenced by any external pressure.
Addressing the Indian community, he said, “This is a more free India. Today, India does not come under the pressure of other countries, who will tell us from where we should buy our oil and from where we should not buy our oil.”
He said, “It is an India that will do what its citizens and be in the interest of the consumers.”
India has been taking Russian oil ever since Western countries imposed sanctions on Moscow over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. India continues to buy large quantities of Russian oil. Russia remained the biggest supplier of crude, which is converted into petrol and diesel at refineries, for the sixth month in a row, according to energy cargo tracker Vortexa.
