The Devasthanam Board, formed during the tenure of former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, oversees the formation of 51 temples in the state, including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, popularly known as Himalayan Chardham.

The Sadhu saint and Tirtha Purohit were strongly opposed to the Devasthanam Board constituted in the state assembly in December 2019 through legislation and they believe that their traditional rights are being affected due to this.

Besides taking charge of the state, Tirath Singh Rawat had said that the Devasthanam board will be considered again
